Sonnenlap 

I recommend and would stay again, as it was very nice without pretension. Charming is the best way to describe this hotel.

• The location was central for walking to restaurants in Vail village, and the main gondola was a few blocks. They had a ski concierge at the base of the gondola to hold your ski things overnight so you wouldn’t have to carry them back and forth. 
• This is the first time we rented boots with heaters in then-game changer. My feet never were too cold or too hot! 
• We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was a good size with a fireplace and small balcony. The bathroom had a large soaking tub/shower and best of all, heated tile. This is such a wonderful treat when stepping out of the shower! 
• The service was good, four stars. The bar for a pre-dinner drink was five star service. The spa was good, a but a bit outdated. My husband and I both did enjoy the oxygen bar to relieve altitude headaches after skiing. 

Restaurants 

One of the biggest strengths of Vail IMO are the diversity and quality of dining. We ate at some very delicious restaurants. 

Sweet Basils -American, fine dining. This was good, but my least favorite of our night time dining experiences. 

Almersi -German and really delicious. The atmosphere was great-a lot of wood and flannel, very cosy.

Several standouts-the homemade pretzel, the gnocchi with roasted chestnut sauce, and the pork shank with sauerkraut. 

Bol -so much fun! Bowling and elevated bar food.

Matshasui – My favorite of the trip. Fun more modern vibe, definitely a place to “see and be seen”.

Standouts – chili infused margarita.

Skiing in Vail

Vail is a huge mountain. It has over 5,000 acres of skiable terrain. My favorite area is called Blue Ski Basin. It helped that the day we skied in that area, we had over 9 inches of fresh snow.
